Ford to share latest mobility strategies for van operators at Fleet Live

Dave PhatakBack

Ford will share its latest thinking on how commercial fleets can leverage data and technology to continue to operate efficiently in cities of the future at Fleet Live this year.

Fleet Live is the leading event for the fleet management community and gives decision-makers the chance to face future challenges and opportunities together with two days of learning, sharing and networking on October 8-9 at the NEC in Birmingham.

Dave Phatak, director at Ford Commercial Solutions (FCS) division at Ford Mobility in Europe, will share his views on how fleets should tackle issues around last mile delivery, Clean Air Zones and how they can leverage connected technology to help improve efficiency.

Phatak said: “The core theme of my presentation will be responsibility as a fleet operator to seek out knowledge about new ways of approaching mobility.

“I think there is a tendency to rely on lack of knowledge as a defence and I want to challenge that. There are tools that are available to connect fleets and give them data they can use to put processes and systems in place to tackle challenges around mobility.”

Phatak will present key details from the Ford City Data report that spent 12 months recording and then analysing data from 160 vans travelling more than one million kilometres (621,000+ miles) in and around London.

Based on the report, Ford went on to create an algorithm based on vehicle behaviour to identify road safety hotspots.

Analysis also showed that by travelling two hours before rush hour, a van could save up to 30 hours per week. Begin 30 minutes before that, and the time saved doubled.

Ford also looked at where vehicles stopped during the day and how many of those stops might be long enough – 30 minutes – to charge an electric vehicle.

The Mobility strategies for van and truck operators seminar session will be held on day two of Fleet Live on October 9 at 11am in the Strategy Theatre at Hall 20 of the NEC. For more information on the full agenda and to sign up for a complimentary pass to Fleet Live head to fleet-live.co.uk
